Advance tax for companies: due dates and interest
A company must pay income tax during the year, not just at the end. If its estimated tax liability for the year is ₹10,000 or more, it pays advance tax in four instalments.
Instalments
| Due date | Cumulative tax to be paid |
|---|---|
| 15 June | 15% |
| 15 September | 45% |
| 15 December | 75% |
| 15 March | 100% |
Tax deducted at source by your customers counts towards advance tax. Pay through challan on the Income-tax portal using the company's PAN.
Interest for shortfall
- Deferment of instalments: simple interest at 1% per month on the shortfall in each instalment.
- Shortfall at year end: if advance tax paid is less than 90% of assessed tax, interest at 1% per month from April until the tax is paid.
Startups with lumpy revenue should re-estimate before each instalment rather than guessing once in June.
