DIR-3 KYC for directors: now once every three years
Every individual who holds a Director Identification Number (DIN) must complete KYC with MCA. Until 2025 this was an annual filing due by 30 September. From 31 March 2026, it is due once every three financial years, by 30 June. Missing it deactivates the DIN.
What changed in 2026
| Before | From 31 March 2026 | |
|---|---|---|
| Frequency | Every financial year | Once every three financial years |
| Due date | 30 September | 30 June |
| Change in mobile, email or address | Updated through the KYC form | Must be reported within 30 days of the change |
| Late or reactivation fee | ₹5,000 | ₹5,000 |
The change was made by the Companies (Appointment and Qualification of Directors) Amendment Rules, 2025. Updating details mid-cycle does not reset the three-year cycle.
The KYC filing needs the director's DSC and a personal mobile number and email verified by OTP.
If you miss the deadline
The DIN is marked "Deactivated due to non-filing of DIR-3 KYC". The director cannot sign or be shown in new filings until KYC is completed with a late fee of ₹5,000.
